Tailer+
Tailer+
Change Log
1.2.2
08/19/2004
  • Added an option to limit the total number of lines displayed in a window. This makes it possible to better limit the resources Tailer+ uses when working with large frequently updated files.
  • Changed the "Scroll on Input" behavior slightly so it will only scroll automatically when a window is scrolled all the way to the bottom. This is to keep it from jumping down to the bottom while the file is being read further up.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause Tailer+ to use lots of CPU when a tail command quit unexpectedly.
  • Changed the text output internals slightly to give better performance.

1.2.1
07/14/2004
  • Added an option to turn off the information tooltip displayed for tail windows.
  • Fixed the Bookmarks Manager so that both bookmark and category titles are editable.

1.2
07/11/2004
  • Added tooltips to the interface and a Tailer+ Manual and a few Unix man pages to the Help menu.
  • Bookmark titles can now be changed independently of the window title.
  • Improvements in the text output and filtering internals.
  • Improvements in the bookmarks internals.
  • Improvements in the Preferences and Window Settings panels.
  • Fixed a crash that could happen when tailing a file through ssh with ssh running as the root user.

1.2b3
05/15/2004
  • Text output (including filtered text) is much faster in this version.
  • This version adds a find panel.
  • Added an option to turn off a text filter.
  • Fixed the Strip Trailing Empty Line option.
  • A few small bug fixes related to text output and display.

1.2b2
03/30/2004
  • Filters are now speakable. There is a Speak Match and a Speak Line option for each filter.
  • Added an option to not display the trailing, empty line that most log files have.
  • Lots of bug fixes, including one that will hopefully speed up the filtering of text.

1.2b1
03/7/2004
  • Tailer+ has been changed to only include log and file viewing functionality, the shell command capabilities have been split out into a seperate program that will be released shortly (check http://analogweb.com/Tailer+/ for details on it's release).
  • Many new features, interfaces additions, and code clean-ups in this release.
  • Filters: Added the ability to add an unlimited number of text filters to a window's display. Syntax for the filters can be Simple Keyword or Perl or Posix regular expressions. Matched lines can be filtered in or out if desired. You can specify foreground and background colors for both the matched text and the matched text's lines. And you can have Tailer+ beep when a match is hit.
  • Bookmarks: Added a new menu called Bookmarks. Open windows can be added to this menu with it's Add Bookmark item. The menu is categorizable and customizable through the Manage Bookmarks item. Bookmarked windows nicely retain ALL their settings when re-opened not not just the file name.
  • Tail with SSH: A new menu item, Tail with SSH, will let you open and view files on a remote host using SSH. Windows tailing a file with SSH behave the same as local files, all settings, filters, and bookmarks work exactly the same.
  • Hot Keys: Two new system-wide hot keys in this release, Hide/Show Tailer+ and Hide/Show Others.
  • Window Settings: Window styles have been improved to include four types, Titled, Titled (Color), Titleless, and Metal. You can set the title bar color for the Titled (Color) type. A window's position and size can also now be changed with text boxes from the Window Settings panel in addition to the standard mouse-based ways.
  • Interface Improvents: Tailer+'s menus, Preferences and Window Settings panels have all had interface updates, hopefully making them easier to understand and use.

1.1.1
12/16/2003
  • Just a few small changes to the Commands menu.

1.1
12/14/2003
  • This is a huge update. I almost felt like changing the name of the program but the icon is so cute I didn't have the heart ;-).
  • Added the ability to run built-in commands. There are 132 preset commands in a a new menu item called Commands. At present they are mostly related to monitoring system info, but I have plans to add more for things like system maintenance, etc. soon. I am also going to add an interface to this menu for you to add your own frequently used commands (something like bookmarks for the command-line). The unix system behind every copy of OS X is extremely powerful and I believe the way I have done these built-in commands will not only allow the novice to run and learn commands they had no idea existed before but it will also work well and be flexible enough for the gurus. It lets you see the command and modify it if you like or just leave it like it is and hit enter to run it. See the Read Me for more info.
  • Completely rewrote the I/O threads and the text formatting (for things like man pages) routines. Output should be faster, use fewer threads, and less CPU, or at least that's the hope.
  • Changing a window's title bar style no longer restarts it's command.
  • A few interface improvements/fixes.
  • A few default preference settings have changed.

1.0.1
12/5/2003
  • Fixed an obscure, but serious bug involving the auto-restarter that could cause windows to not be able to be closed. 1.0
  • First non-beta release. 12/2/2003
  • First release as shareware. $15, unregistered version is limited to 3 open windows at a time.
  • The up/down arrow keys now scroll the text in command windows.
  • Ctrl-c now stops a running process without closing it's window.
  • Added a "Tailer+ Manual" to the Help menu.
  • Added many more man pages to the Help menu.

1.0 (b2)
11/22/2003
Note: The preferences file has changed a little. If you have prefs left over from 1.0 (b1) all saved window title bars will be reset to "Titled". Using the Window Settings panel to change them back is all that is needed to fix this.
  • Added an "Ignores Mouse Clicks" option to the window settings.
  • Added a new title bar option, "Titled (Color)".
  • Many bug fixes and additions for Jaguar.
  • A few small interface fixes.
  • A few fixes in the code that restarts commands automatically.
  • Reworked the code that changes an open window's title bar.
  • Small fix in handling of a task's output.

1.0 (b1)
11/11/2003
  • First public release.
